Legacy Fund supports our community

1st Asia Pacific Outgames Legacy Fund

Melbourne Outgames Incorporated has awarded legacy fund grants to a range of organisations that support events, projects and activities that enhance and further sport, culture and human rights for the rainbow communities of the Asia Pacific.

GLISA AP is administering the fund and we will be sharing the stories from the groups themselves about the learning and experiences, which things worked well and did not, and whether the visions for the projects were met.

They include:

  • ALSO. Minus 18 (Melbourne, Australia): Plus is a project offering a variety of fun and energetic recreational and cultural activities for rainbow young people aged under 25 years.

  • DANSS Inc (Wellington, New Zealand): Providing a Dancesport competition for rainbow participants - no such opportunity currently exists in New Zealand.

  • Melbourne Rovers SC (Australia): Increasing membership in this new rainbow sports club.

  • QSAM/Women in Sport (Melbourne, Australia): Encouraging more lesbians to participate in sport and fitness.

  • CHISI – Challenging Homophobia in Sport (Victoria, Australia): A research project aiming to contribute towards increasing accessibility to and participation in sports by identifying the major blocks to this and the best ways to address these in policy and practice.

  • Glamourhead Sharks (Melbourne, Australia): To encourage rainbow 18-25 year olds to join a community sporting organisation.

  • Melbourne Argonauts Queer Rowing Club - increasing the skill & knowledge capacity of rainbow rowers in Melbourne and Australia.

  • People Like Us (PLUS), (Kolkate, India): commissioning a dance-visual montage presentation that tells the story of young transgender people, their fears, struggles and dreams and what it means to die every day and live it too.

  • Team Pilipinas (Manila, Phillipines): To support the organisation and running of the DEW Games Project. This event consists of sports activities, a human rights conference and photo/video documentation of the events open to rainbow peopl, GBT and their friends and families.

  • Tiwhanawhana Trust (Wellington, NZ): Bring together Maori composers and historians to acknowledge takatapui composers and create new waiata (songs) for and about takatapui. Takatapui - means any Maori rainbow individual.

A special grant was made to 2nd Asia Pacific Outgames Wellington 2011 to support the organisation and delivery of the Outgames.
