NOKIA THAMES SWIM - ARE YOU READY?!

It’s only two weeks to go until you and 1000 swimmers embark on the Nokia Thames Swim.

CHANGE OF COURSE

Due to the popular demand of the swim, the swim course has changed slightly to accommodate more swimmers in a safe environment, also allowing supporters better access to the finishing area.

The swim distance now stands at 2.25 miles (3.62km); to see the updated course, click map for an easy to follow guide.

Not sure you are ready for this distance? If you feel the distance will be too much for you at this time please feel free to transfer, free of charge, to The Great Big Open Water Swim on Saturday September 4th at Dorney Lake, Eton, which is the lesser distance of 3km. Email carina@humanrace.co.uk if you wish to transfer.

Full race information, including details on registration and start times, will be sent to you in the next few days so please keep an eye on your inbox for that as it contains the vital information you will need before race day. Next week, your race number and wave start time will be available on the website. Your start time will be between 9am and 10:30am.

In the meantime we advise competitors to plan on arriving at the venue at least an hour before their start time. Travelling by train is recommended as parking is limited. Additional parking is available in Kingston. Please allow plenty of time for parking as space will be at a premium.

MORE ABOUT THE TITLE SPONSOR

Nokia have teamed up with open water swimmer Keri-Anne Payne (Olympic silver medallist in Beijing) to provide you with expert tips on training for the Nokia Thames Swim from now until race day.

Head to nokiaoutdoorseries.co.uk and receive more training tips and advice on open water swimming, plus key information on how to tackle the Nokia Thames Swim route from Keri-Anne Payne's interactive course guide. We've identified key points on the course and highlighted tips and useful advice on how to successfully swim 2.25 miles down the River Thames.

For your last minute training out of the water, make sure you download the award–winning Nokia Sports Tracker app from the Ovi Store. Turn your phone into a full-featured GPS sports computer so you can chart your progress, find your strengths and weaknesses, and share with others.

WILL YOU NEED A WETSUIT?

Wetsuits are optional, however they do help with buoyancy, speed and warmth so we recommend that you wear one. Wetsuit hire is available through TriandRun. If you do not wish to wear a wetsuit we recommend that you wear a tri-suit or rash vest. After registration, men’s and women’s changing facilities will be available.

SPEEDO

If you are looking to buy a wetsuit, our event partners Speedo will be able to help. Founded in 1928, Speedo is the world's leading swimwear brand with over 80 years of heritage and expertise in swimwear, apparel and equipment based in or near the water. Speedo, known for it's great comfort & fit of swimwear, offer a fantastic range of swimwear (including TriathELITE product) and accessories available to you pre-race day. Click here to benefit from 20% off all Speedo wetsuits by entering the code 'wetsuitoffer' when you buy online.

SOMEWHERE TO STAY?

If you require accommodation we recommend the nearby Antoinette Hotel. To book please call 0844 567 8950 or visit www.antoinettehotel.com. Don’t forget to mention you are a Human Race competitor for the special rate.

WATERAID

We're working in partnership with WaterAid, our Official Charity for the Nokia Thames Swim. Globally 884 million people live without safe drinking water and 2.5 billion do not have adequate sanitation. WaterAid is an international charity that fights to change this and enable the world's poorest people to gain access to safe water and sanitation. Together with improved hygiene, these basic human rights underpin health, education and livelihoods, forming the first essential step in overcoming poverty. We work with local partners, who understand local issues, and provide them with the skills and support to help communities set up and manage practical and sustainable projects that meet their real needs.

If you would like to raise sponsorship for WaterAid then you can create your own sponsorship page by going to www.justgiving.com/wateraid. You can also contact Jill or Kat for a fundraising pack by calling 020 7793 2232 or emailing events@wateraid.org. Just £15 can enable one person to access safe water, improved hygiene and sanitation so however much you can raise will make a huge difference.

We'll be in touch again closer to the event with final updates, tips and information, but until then, we hope you enjoy getting ready for the Nokia Thames Swim 2010!

With best wishes, and good luck with the remaining training,

The Human Race Team
