10 DAYS TO GO
UPDATE

With just under two weeks to go now until the Shock Absorber WomenOnly 5/10k Fun Run or Triathlon on Saturday July 3 at Dorney Lake, we thought we'd drop you a quick line to see how you're getting on.

Race Information

You should have received an email with the race information, for a direct link to the race information, click here. Please do make sure you read it as it outlines everything you need to know to prepare you for race day. Racing starts from 10am. You will collect your race number and timing chip when you register on Saturday, however please check the website to confirm your entry details are correct.

Training

By now you should have plenty of training under your belt, but here’s some pre event Triathlon training advice from thetrilife.com for you with some points also being relevant for people doing the 5 or 10k:

1.   One session in each discipline each week should include race pace efforts.
2.   Make sure you have everything you need for your race in terms of equipment. For example do you have elastic laces in your trainers - these will really save you time. But do use them before race day!
3.   Some sessions should be done in your race kit to make sure it is comfortable and working well.
4.   Make time to practice your transitions, T1 (Swim to Bike) and T2 (Bike to Run)
5.   What will you do if you get a puncture? How important is finishing the race to you? If you really want to finish then practice changing an inner tube and make sure you have a good but light pump, tyre levers and an inner tube with you on race day.
6.   Plan what you are going to have for breakfast on race day and practice this during training.
7.   Practice drinking and eating on the bike. What nutrition will you use during the race - PRACTICE NOW! Have a look at Science in Sport’s (SIS) website as it’s packed full of useful tips and information with online purchase available.

The Swim

We realise this is the part a lot of you won’t be looking forward to! However remember you’re not alone and there’ll be lots of people to help you. Dorney Lake also offers a great swim with its calm and clear water and there will be safety crew on hand and to guide you. The water temperature today is 17 degrees which will make wetsuits optional. Whilst not obligatory, we would recommend that you wear a wetsuit. It doesn’t matter what type of wetsuit you use, but a triathlon specific one is designed to give you added buoyancy and mobility for swimming. Contact www.triandrun.com for hire.

For those of you looking to buy a wetsuit, Speedo is the world's leading swimwear brand with over 80 years of heritage and expertise in swimwear, apparel and equipment based in or near the water. Speedo known for it’s great comfort & fit of swimwear, offer a fantastic range of swimwear (including TriathELITE product) and accessories available to you pre-race day.  Click here to benefit from 20% off all Speedo wetsuits by entering the code ‘wetsuitoffer’ when you buy online.

The Bike

Again if you don’t have a racing bike, you can use any type of bike however we would encourage you to have it serviced before race day. Once you have registered, you will rack your bike in the secure transition area. If you need any last minute items for your bike or the race TriandRun, the UK’s leading triathlon retailer, will be there on the day.
